April Curriculum Framework - Physical Copy
April Curriculum Framework
Rain, Weather & Water
A calm, thoughtful printed curriculum framework designed to help you explore rain, puddles, water movement and weather through meaningful early years experiences.
This isn’t a themed activity pack filled with disconnected ideas. Instead, the April Curriculum Framework offers an intentional, structured approach to learning designed for real early years settings, where time, resources and energy are limited.
The focus this month is on puddles, rain, movement, cause and effect and sensory exploration, helping children investigate water in natural, playful ways. From splashing in puddles to watching water flow, children develop curiosity, language and early scientific thinking through hands-on experiences.
As with every framework from The Early Years Edit, this resource supports deep learning through repetition, exploration and child-led play, rather than constantly changing activities.
Inside the Framework
The April framework includes:
• A clear monthly overview explaining the focus and learning threads
• Eight core invitations to play designed to stay available throughout the month
• Practical real-life activity guidance suitable for small settings
• EYFS links naturally embedded within play experiences
• Differentiation and progression from babies through to Reception
• Vocabulary development to support language growth
• SEND adaptations and inclusion guidance
• A parent overview page to help families understand the learning happening in your setting
Children explore experiences such as:
• Puddle pathways and water movement
• Water flow investigations
• Floating and sinking experiments
• Rain sound and sensory play
• Weather watching stations
• Incy Wincy movement storytelling
Each invitation to play encourages children to observe, predict, experiment and talk about what they notice.
Designed for Real Early Years Practice
This framework was created from my experience as both a qualified teacher and practising childminder, so everything inside is realistic for real homes and small settings.
You won’t find complicated setups or unrealistic Pinterest activities here.
Instead, you’ll find:
• Simple resources you likely already have
• Sustainable planning that reduces overwhelm
• Invitations children can revisit again and again
• Learning that grows naturally over time
Because meaningful learning doesn’t come from constantly changing activities. It comes from depth, repetition and curiosity.
Age Range
The framework supports children from 9 months to 5 years, with built-in progression to help you adapt experiences for babies, toddlers and preschool children.

A Gentle Reminder
Early years learning doesn’t need to be complicated.
Children don’t need endless new activities. They need time, space and thoughtful invitations to explore.
That’s exactly what this framework provides.
