Colour Cards
Colour Cards
A simple little resource for helping children notice colour in the world around them, rather than only learning colour names from a flashcard.
These printable Colour Cards give children a clear visual reference for each colour through different painted marks, splashes, circles and brush strokes, alongside the simple prompt “Can you find something…?”
Use them for a colour hunt around your setting, take them outdoors, add them to your creative area, pair them with loose parts or simply leave them within provision for children to pick up and explore. Children can match objects to the cards, notice different shades, make connections with things they already know or recreate the colours and marks through their own artwork.
They are designed to support colour recognition, communication and language, visual discrimination, sorting and matching, creativity and observation without turning colour exploration into a formal activity.
There is no right way to use them. Pick a colour that has caught a child’s interest, take one on your next walk or put a few out together and see what they discover.
