Nature Shape Cards
Nature Shape Cards
Shapes are everywhere. Sometimes children just need a reason to stop and notice them.
These printable Nature Shape Cards introduce familiar 2D shapes through natural, open ended play. Rather than simply recognising a shape on a page, children are invited to build it for themselves, using everyday treasures such as twigs, pebbles, leaves and flowers.
Take the cards outdoors and hunt for what you need, add them to a loose parts basket or use them as a simple maths invitation. Children can recreate the shapes shown, compare their properties, talk about sides and corners, experiment with different materials and begin spotting the same shapes within the world around them.
There is no worksheet and no prescribed finished product. Just a gentle prompt that brings together early geometry, mathematical language, problem solving, fine motor control and connection with the natural world in a way that feels like play.
Perfect for: Shape recognition, early geometry, mathematical language, loose parts, nature play and outdoor learningFormat: Digital printable resourceAvailable: Purchase individually or access as part of The Play Library
Print a card, gather what you can find and build maths with what is already around you.
