Nature Story Prompt Cards

Nature Story Prompt Cards

A set of simple, open ended prompts designed to give children somewhere to begin, without deciding where their play should end up.

These 6 printable story prompt cards use familiar natural materials and simple visual ideas to encourage children to build, imagine, talk, create and tell their own stories. The set includes A Forest Home, A Tiny Path, A Bug Hotel, A Pond, A Nest and A Garden Party, with each card offering a gentle “Can you make…?” invitation rather than a set activity to copy.

Add one to a basket of sticks, stones and leaves, tuck them into your small world provision, take them outdoors or simply leave a card alongside a collection of open ended resources. Children might recreate what they see, tell an elaborate story around it or take the idea somewhere completely different. That is exactly the point.

They are particularly lovely for supporting imaginative play, storytelling, communication and language, creativity, problem solving and connection with the natural world, without needing an elaborate set up or lots of specialist resources.
