A home learning bag that doesn’t feel like homework.
The Nature Treasure Bag is a ready to use printable pack designed to help early years settings send meaningful learning home over half term, without worksheets, complicated activities or asking families to buy a list of resources. The idea is simple: give children a little bag, head outside together and see what they notice.
The pack encourages children and families to explore the natural world, search for little treasures, notice minibeasts and living things, talk about what they discover and bring their experiences back into the setting afterwards. The included “I Found…” nature hunt prompts children to look for everything from leaves, flowers and feathers to something slow, something busy and something that needed water.
What makes this more than a scavenger hunt is the link between home and setting. A parent note explains the learning behind the experience, including communication and language, understanding the world, physical development and personal, social and emotional development, while the return card gives families space to share what they found, what their child particularly enjoyed and anything else they noticed. Practitioners can then use those experiences to inform conversations, interests and meaningful next steps when children return.
There is also a simple Minibeast Fact Card introducing bees, snails, worms and ladybirds alongside an important message about gentle handling, plus a Little Nature Rhyme to share together.
