Oops… My Wee Needed Me! | A Gentle Toilet Learning Story

Toilet learning is a big developmental step, and it very rarely happens in a perfectly straight line.

Oops… My Wee Needed Me! follows Teddy, who is far too busy playing to stop for the toilet. He wriggles, squeezes his legs together, does the occasional wee dance and, sometimes, realises what his body was telling him just a little too late. There are accidents along the way, but there is no shame, disappointment or pressure. Teddy is simply learning.

As the story develops, Teddy begins to recognise his own body signals, pause his play and understand that he can go to the toilet and come straight back afterwards. Eventually, that familiar tummy feeling arrives and Teddy knows exactly what it means: “Oh! I think my wee needs me!”

The story deliberately celebrates trying rather than staying dry. Some days Teddy makes it to the toilet, some days he doesn’t, and both are treated as part of learning. There are no reward charts, pressure or expectations of perfection, just reassurance, repetition and growing confidence.

Alongside the story are practical pages for the adults supporting the child, including gentle adult notes, funny conversation starters and a visual ‘Can You Spot Teddy’s Wee Clues?’ page, helping children notice signals such as crossing their legs, hopping, holding their tummy, becoming suddenly quiet or squirming.

17 page digital story and support resourcePerfect for: Toilet learning, developing independence, body awareness, home and setting consistency, PSED and self careSuitable for: Childminders, nurseries, preschools and families

Read it before beginning toilet learning, revisit it after an accident or leave it somewhere children can return to Teddy whenever they need him.

Because an accident isn’t a failure. It’s part of figuring out what your body is trying to tell you. 💕
