Sensory Kitchen Prompt Cards

A sensory kitchen doesn’t need a new themed set up every week. Sometimes a bowl, a spoon, a little water and permission to experiment are more than enough.

These 6 printable Sensory Kitchen Cards introduce simple actions children can explore again and again: stir, mix, pour, make a potion, smell and scoop. Each card combines a clear visual with a gentle prompt and useful vocabulary such as turn, swirl, blend, tip, fill and sniff, giving children language for what they are already doing through play.

Pop them into a mud or sensory kitchen, use them alongside water play, herbs and flowers, or add one to a simple bowl and utensil invitation. They can support fine motor development, coordination, sensory exploration, communication and language, imaginative play and early mathematical thinking through filling, emptying, transferring and noticing change.

There is no recipe to follow and no finished product children are expected to make. The cards simply offer another possibility: What could you add? What happens when you mix it? Can you pour it? What can you smell?

Designed to be revisited rather than completed once, they work beautifully with the everyday resources already sitting in most early years cupboards.
