Wildflower Potion Shop | Sensory & Imaginative Play Pack
Wildflower Potion Shop | Sensory & Imaginative Play Pack
A potion station that can stay in your provision for far longer than one lovely afternoon.
The Wildflower Potion Shop is a printable play pack designed to turn a few simple ingredients into an open ended invitation for children to mix, pour, smell, explore, imagine and create. Add water, petals, herbs, leaves, bowls, jugs and spoons and let the children decide what their potion shop becomes.
At the heart of the pack are 8 beautifully illustrated potion recipe cards including Rose Potion, Bee Tea, Garden Soup, Flower Water, Lavender Mix, Sunshine Potion, Mint Magic and Daisy Dust. Rather than giving children a rigid recipe to follow, the cards offer simple ingredients alongside little prompts such as What colour did your potion become?, Can you smell the lavender? and Does the water change colour?
You’ll also find a complete collection of signs and labels to help transform an ordinary sensory kitchen or outdoor table into a child accessible Wildflower Potion Station, including Potion Shop Open, Nature Café, Potion Mixing Area, Ingredients, Tools, Water Station, Finished Potions, Drying Station and Potion Makers at Work. A simple set of Potion Station Rules gently reinforces smelling carefully, using safe flowers and herbs, caring for living things and washing hands after potion play.
The final set of prompt cards takes the play a little further with questions including What can you see? What can you smell? What can you hear? What can you feel? What can you mix? What might happen? Can you create? and What will you do next?
That means the same invitation can support sensory exploration, communication and language, imaginative play, fine motor development, early scientific thinking, prediction, cause and effect and connection with the natural world, without an adult needing to direct where the play should go.
