Sharing a Shell - Interactive Storytelling Experience
Interactive Storytelling Experience: Sharing a Shell
Bring Julia Donaldson's much-loved story to life through a beautifully designed, toddler-friendly interactive storytelling experience inspired by the themes of friendship, belonging and sensory exploration.
Created to complement The Aqua Thread and the Water, Movement and Sensory Exploration Framework, this resource encourages practitioners to slow down, connect and share meaningful moments alongside children. Using simple props, sensory invitations and carefully chosen adult prompts, children are supported to engage with the story through movement, touch, sound and imaginative play.
Across two A4 pages, you will find everything you need to guide the experience, including:
A simple list of suggested resources and props.
Step-by-step storytelling prompts linked to key moments within the story.
Adult language suggestions to model naturally during play.
Opportunities for movement, sensory exploration and revisiting.
Ideas for extending the learning through independent provision.
Aqua Thread connections to support reflection and deepen understanding.
This is not about testing children's recall or expecting them to sit through a traditional story session. Instead, it is about creating shared experiences, following children's interests and allowing them to explore the story in their own unique way.
Perfect for toddlers and young children, this resource supports communication and language development, social and emotional understanding, sensory engagement and early imaginative play.
Because stories are not just something we read – they are experiences we share together.
