Teddy’s Mealtime Try | A Gentle Independence Story

Teddy’s Mealtime Try | A Gentle Independence Story

Mealtimes are full of learning, but they can also be messy, slow, unpredictable and sometimes a little overwhelming. Teddy’s Mealtime Try was created to celebrate all of that, rather than expecting little children to suddenly know how to manage it perfectly.

This gentle, toddler friendly story follows Teddy through the everyday moments that gradually build mealtime independence: using a spoon, helping to set the table, serving his own food, pouring a drink, exploring unfamiliar foods, scraping leftovers, helping to clean up and washing his hands.

There are spills. Things clink and fall. Food doesn’t always make it onto the plate. Teddy doesn’t necessarily like everything he tastes either, because this isn’t a story about getting children to eat nicely or clear their plate. It is about trying, participating, building confidence and being trusted with real responsibility, one little step at a time.

Throughout the book, the story pages are paired with practical practitioner and parent support. You’ll find adult conversation prompts, vocabulary to explore and short learning facts that explain what sits behind seemingly ordinary moments such as scooping, pouring, tasting and tidying.

The book also includes a visual Mealtime Independence Journey, six simple experiences to try together and Teddy’s Silly Mealtime Games, giving you plenty of ways to take the ideas beyond the story and into everyday practice.
