Autumn Colour Hunt

Printable Outdoor Exploration Resource

Take colour matching beyond the table with this simple Autumn Colour Hunt, designed to encourage children to slow down, look closely and notice the changing colours of the season. Featuring six rich autumn shades — green, red, brown, orange, burgundy and yellow — children can take the sheet outdoors and see what they can discover.     Autumn Colour Hunt

Leaves, berries, bark, flowers and other natural treasures can be collected or simply observed and matched to the colours on the sheet. There’s no set number to find and no need for everything to be an exact match — the value is in looking, comparing, noticing and talking about the differences.

A lovely way to support colour recognition, visual discrimination, descriptive language and early comparison skills, while encouraging children to connect with seasonal change and the natural world around them.

Use it on an autumn walk, in the garden, during outdoor provision or alongside a seasonal treasure collection. Children can revisit it throughout autumn too, noticing how the colours they find begin to change as the season moves on.
