Autumn Leaf Subitising

Printable Early Maths Resource

Bring a little autumn into your maths provision with this set of leaf quantity cards from 1–15. Each circular card features a different arrangement of autumn leaves, encouraging children to look, notice and begin recognising quantities without relying on written numerals.     Autumn Leaf Subitising 1-15

For younger children, the smaller quantities provide a playful introduction to subitising — beginning to recognise how many objects are there without needing to count each one individually. As quantities increase, children can use the cards for counting, comparing and spotting smaller groups within a larger collection, helping to develop a deeper understanding of number composition and quantity.

Because there are no numerals printed on the quantity cards, they can be used in lots of different ways. Pair them with number stones or numeral cards, add loose parts for children to recreate the quantities, use them in a matching game, hide them around the setting for an autumn number hunt or simply place a few within continuous provision and see what children notice.

The different leaf arrangements also encourage children to understand that a quantity stays the same even when objects are positioned differently — an important part of developing secure early number sense.

Perfect for tuff trays, maths areas, loose-parts play, autumn invitations and outdoor provision, with quantities that allow the resource to grow with children rather than being limited to one stage.
