Notice. Wonder. Explore. Connect. ✨

Encourage little learners to look up, explore and discover the wonders of the world around them with The Gold Thread, a thoughtful and inclusive curriculum extension from The Early Years Edit.

Created to complement our Above Us: Sky, Space & Wonder Curriculum Framework, this beautifully illustrated resource encourages practitioners to slow down, follow children's curiosity and deepen everyday learning through observation, exploration and meaningful connections.

From golden sunlight and changing shadows to floating feathers, moving clouds and the wonder of the sky above us, The Gold Thread invites children to investigate the little things that so often spark the biggest discoveries.

This isn't another theme to plan or more activities to complete. It's a gentle invitation to revisit familiar experiences, notice changes and allow children's natural curiosity to lead the way.

⭐ Mathematics – Supporting comparison, positional language, sequencing, sorting and noticing similarities and differences.

Inclusion at the Heart

At The Early Years Edit, inclusion is woven through everything we create.

Each practical play extension includes SEND-friendly adaptations, adult guidance and achievable ways to support children with differing communication, sensory, physical and developmental needs.

Children can participate through observation, movement, touch, gesture, visual communication or spoken language, without pressure to respond, predict correctly or engage in one particular way.

The adult language prompts complement the ShREC approach – Share attention, Respond, Expand and Conversation, encouraging responsive interactions, shared curiosity and opportunities for deeper learning.

The resource also includes guidance for creating safe, age-appropriate experiences, particularly when supporting babies and younger children.

A Little Inspiration...

Place a small collection of large, safe golden objects beside a window and notice how the sunlight changes their appearance throughout the day.

Take a moment to watch the clouds together. What has moved? What looks different? What might we notice tomorrow?

Introduce a lightweight feather or soft fabric and explore what happens when it falls. Repeat the experience, compare movements and allow children to discover their own questions.

There is no need for elaborate setups, complicated explanations or perfectly presented activities.

Choose a few simple enhancements, revisit them regularly and allow children to lead.
